I’ve found there are two keys to sports photography. First is to know your camera … be familiar enough so you can make adjustments on the fly without looking at the controls. Second, and more importantly, is know the sport to the point where you can anticipate the action. Sometimes he story is told by the athlete on the sidelines, however in football the most exciting photos are found in key plays. If you understand the team’s trends and the sport’s tactics, you can position yourself to capture dynamic photos.
